Last Updated: April 10, 2026, 6:02 PM IST. A 4-day banking shutdown is coming this week. Branches across most of India will remain closed from Friday evening through Tuesday morning due to back-to-back holidays.
Here is the exact breakdown. April 11 (Friday) is the Second Saturday of the month observed on the preceding Friday because April 12 is a Saturday. April 12 (Saturday) is a regular weekend.
April 13 (Sunday) is a regular weekend. April 14 (Tuesday) is Dr B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti combined with Baisakhi, Tamil New Year, Bohag Bihu, and Vishu, making it a bank holiday in 18 or more states.
This means if you do not complete your cash withdrawals and branch banking by Thursday April 10, you will not have access to physical bank services until Tuesday April 15 in most states.
Which States Are Most Affected
Banks in Assam face the longest closure because Bohag Bihu celebrations extend from April 14 to 16. Tripura, West Bengal, Kerala, and Manipur will also see extended closures on April 15 for Bengali New Year and Vishu. In these states, branches may not reopen until April 16 or later, creating a 5 to 6 day gap.
In metro cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, the confirmed closure dates are April 11, 12, 13, and 14. Branches reopen April 15 in most metros.
What Still Works During the Holiday
UPI payments through Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm work 24×7 including holidays. NEFT is available round the clock every day of the year. IMPS transfers process instantly on all days. ATM withdrawals are available but machines in some areas may run out of cash by Sunday if not restocked.
Net banking and mobile banking apps remain fully operational for fund transfers and bill payments. According to the RBI holiday list, digital channels remain the primary way to manage money during these extended breaks [rbi.org.in].
However, some banks schedule server maintenance on Second Saturday nights. If you plan to do large transfers late Friday night, complete them before 11 PM to avoid any downtime issues. If your transaction fails, you should check your official status to ensure the amount is not debited twice during the technical lag.
What You Must Do Before Friday
Withdraw enough cash to last through Tuesday. If you have cheque deposits pending, submit them by Thursday. Ensure your auto-debit mandates for EMIs due between April 11 and 14 have sufficient balance in your account before Friday because NACH processing may be delayed.
Check if your specific branch has any additional local holidays by calling the branch directly. You should also verify your payment schedule to avoid any late payment penalties during the bank lockout.
You Need to Know: April 11 Second Saturday, April 12 Saturday, April 13 Sunday, April 14 Ambedkar Jayanti. Branch services shut for 4 days in most states and up to 6 days in Assam and Tripura.
